Description
Albert’s experience in set design lent itself to his idyllic outdoor canvases and Mid-Winter serves as a perfect example. One is immediately taken with the delicate tonalities of his palette in rendering the snow-draped landscape and spindly trees, some of which still retain the last vestiges of fall color, while the warmth of the overhead sunlight is suggested by the flowing waters of the central cascade. Winter’s grip is not so formidable, as the icy edges along its banks gradually recede to the current of the river.

Very good. The painting was cleaned and lined in 2022. There is minor retouch scattered along the edges from old frame rub, a small spot in the center water, a few small spots in the upper center sky and in the tree branches at right, a cluster of thin lines in lower left snow, and two small clusters of dots and dashes in lower right snow.
