Plunging Fish

Bronze, Edition 1 of 6
57 x 30 x 25 inches

Signed lower left: Offner ©1997

1997
$35,000

It was during the 1980s that Offner began capturing birds and fish. His manner was unique, as John Davis, a fellow Smith College art professor explained, “Elliot captured the abstract beauty of movement in the natural world, always with a warmth and richness of surface that reminded viewers of the transformative power of the artist’s hand.” Plunging Fish was the largest piece featured in Vose Galleries’ important solo exhibition of Offner’s work, held in 2007, and acquired privately by Abbot W. and Marcia L. Vose to display in their south shore garden. The sculpture is an intriguing spectacle balancing mass and grace – the power of the creature’s forceful dive counters wonderfully with the elegance of its twisting form.
