Dogwood

Oil on canvas
30 x 25 1/4 inches

Signed lower right: H. Dudley Murphy

$65,000

Dogwood exemplifies Murphy’s Boston School credentials and immediately engages the viewer with the bold citrine yellow of the background drapery, which echoes among the curves of the delicate white petals of the flowers. Punctuated by the occasional green leaf and violet shadow among the blossoms and gently bowing stems, the composition has a pleasing depth that is unexpected from a straight-on still life arrangement and the overall effect is enhanced by the handsome Murphy-style Arts & Crafts frame, carved by Feliciano Nemiccolo.
