Overcast Landscape

Oil on canvas
21 1/4 x 26 3/8 inches

Signed lower left: C.H. Davis

$14,500

Overcast Landscape is a wonderful rendition of an American farmstead, demonstrating Davis’ genius for capturing mood and the bare essence of a scene before him using a limited but thoughtfully balanced palette. The play between the warm tones of the hillside and the cooler blues of the rolling clouds is particularly effective, and the composition is enhanced by the period Carrig-Rohane frame designed and gilded specifically for the piece when it was first handled by Vose Galleries in 1923.
