Icy River (West River, Vermont)
Signed lower right: A.T. Hibbard
Description
Icy River (West River, Vermont) exemplifies Aldro Hibbard’s gift for finding elements of beauty in an otherwise commonplace scene of a partially frozen river bank. With passages of yellow and pink, he has rendered the sun’s rays falling on the snow and against the tree trunks and sloping mountainside on the far side of the water, thereby imbuing a chilly winter scene with undeniable warmth and optimism.

Condition
Very good. The painting was recently cleaned and was lined to address fine stress cracking in the lower portion of the canvas and pressure lines from the stretcher bars. There is minor in-paint along the left edge, very scattered dots in the sky and mountains, and scattered dots and a few short thin lines in the lower left and lower right quadrants.
