Description
Early in his career, Farndon made ends meet by working for the Shuttleworth Marble Company and was a talented carver, helping create works for the Plaza Hotel, Radio City and other New York City establishments. Rockbound Cove, Nova Scotia was a gift from the artist to Herbert Coope, an executive of the company with whom Farndon and his sister Eunice shared a home in Douglaston, New York, on the eastern end of Long Island, for decades. Rendered with the artist’s bold impasto and eye for intriguing composition, the scene depicts the rugged coastline and weathered fish houses of a Nova Scotian inlet, the Canadian province he was fond of painting in all seasons, and it has descended in the Coope family for three generations.

Excellent. The painting is unlined and was recently cleaned. There are minor specks of in-paint in the left sky, a small spot of in-paint near the top edge at left, and a small spot near the right edge.
