Before the Storm

Watercolor & graphite on paper
17 1/4 x 25 1/8 inches

Signed lower left: Carl G. Cutler

$9,500

Carl Gordon Cutler, a firm believer in the emotive possibilities of color, found inspiration for the majority of his work among the woods and rugged shores of mid-coast Maine. Before the Storm is a beautiful example of Cutler’s color theory, the rich purples and browns in the sky conveying the anticipation, static, and looming presence of the impending storm. The houses in the midground stand stalwart as the bushes and trees bow in the heavy winds.
