Echoes of Spring

On exhibition May 13, 2025 - June 27, 2025

Vose Galleries is pleased to present Echoes of Spring, an exhibition of recent acquisitions as well as familiar favorites whose subjects and palettes reflect the welcoming spirit of rejuvenation that defines the season.

Spring is a time of rebirth, of blossoming trees and flowers, as demonstrated in Gladys Nelson Smith’s Poppies and Hydrangeas and in Marion Monks Chase’s painting of the River Seine with potted plants on a wrought iron balcony, aptly titled May. This time of year also prompts longer days spent exploring all that nature has to offer, from the sandy coastlines painted by Warren Sheppard and Mabel May Woodward to the lakes and mountains favored by sportsmen, as seen in John Whorf’s watercolors of recreational fishermen. Finally, with the change in seasons, we leave the cooler tones and shadows of winter behind and embrace the luminous color and warmth of spring; this transformation is embodied in Jane Peterson’s charming gouache The Market – San Remo, Italy and James Jeffrey Grant’s sunlit depiction of a tranquil Cape Ann cove, among other wonderful paintings. A few examples in the exhibition look beyond spring to the glorious summer on the horizon, yet for us they reverberate the essence of both seasons, and we feel obliged to include them. Echoes of Spring will be viewable in the gallery and online at www.vosegalleries.com from May 13 through June 27, 2025.
