Eleanor Parke Custis (1897-1983)

Born in Washington DC, Eleanor Parke Custis trained under Edmund C. Tarbell at the Corcoran School of Art. She also studied with Henry Snell during the summers of 1924 and 1925 in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Such extensive training culminated in a solo exhibition in 1925 at the Washington Art Club. She traveled extensively throughout her life, and in 1960 she moved to Gloucester permanently from her home in Georgetown. She was a member of many institutions, including the American Watercolor Society, the National Arts Club, the North Shore Arts Association, the Boston Art Club, and the National Association of Woman Painters and Sculptors.
