Discoveries: Mary Hughes

Discoveries is an ongoing exhibition series at Vose Galleries dedicated to introducing exceptional emerging and mid-career artists whose work reflects originality, technical achievement, and a distinctive artistic vision. Rooted in the gallery’s longstanding tradition of recognizing artists of enduring quality, the series provides a platform for contemporary voices while offering collectors the opportunity to engage with noteworthy new work at pivotal moments in each artist’s career.
Mary Hughes transforms observations of landscape, memory, and place into richly layered abstract paintings. Inspired by maps, waterways, botanical forms, and the often-overlooked ecologies of urban environments, her work explores how landscapes are experienced and remembered through time. Through intricate networks of line, color, and gesture, Hughes creates compositions that exist between abstraction and landscape, inviting viewers to consider both the physical world and their own personal connections to it. Vose Galleries is thrilled to present the work of Mary Hughes as the inaugural exhibition in its new Discoveries series. The exhibition will be on view from September 9 through October 7, 2026.
