Born in Boston, he studied at the Académie Julian in Paris under Gustave Boulanger and Jules-Joseph Lefebvre from 1881 to 1887. A longstanding member of both the Boston Art Club and the Boston Society of Watercolor Painters, Pritchard exhibited widely throughout his career, including at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. His reputation reached its height in 1903 when Beacon Galleries in Boston mounted a major exhibition of 180 of his paintings, which reportedly sold out within four days. His promising career was cut short in 1905 when he suffered a fatal stroke while working in his Tremont Street studio.
