PAUL INGBRETSON (active)

Born in Denver, Colorado, Paul Ingbretson came to New York to study painting at the Studio School and later at Art Students League under Robert Brackman and others in the early 1970s. Seeking a more structured format and a mentor-style connection, he went to Boston and studied with luminary R. H. Ives Gammell in the latter’s French-style atelier at Fenway Studios from 1976 and 1980. Gammell’s adherence to the Boston School canon combining good draftsmanship, deft paint handling, and fidelity to impressionist color deeply resonated with Ingbretson; he established his own teaching studio by the early 1980s and today directs the Paul Ingbretson Studio of Drawing and Painting in northern New Hampshire.
