Winter Rhythms
Signed lower right: Haywood-Sullivan
Description
Vose Galleries has proudly held solo shows of Liz Haywood-Sullivan’s work in 2007, 2011, and 2019, and opened a fourth solo exhibition demonstrating her sensitivity to the seasonal rhythms of the natural world in the summer of 2021. Winter Rhythms was included in our 2019 exhibit and inspired the following from the artist: “What a pleasure it was to paint this painting. I like to try different techniques and papers. This is on black Canson Mi Tientes paper – historically Canson began making paper in 1557! Because this paper has little tooth, compared to an artists sanded paper, I use a different markmaking technique to apply my pastels. The resulting image relies more on graphic strokes, layered on top of each other, to build up the color. This was located on a tidal beach on a Massachusetts winter stroll with our dogs.”
