Garden Spring
Signed lower right: Haywood-Sullivan
Description
Vose Galleries had proudly held solo shows of Liz Haywood-Sullivan’s work in 2007, 2011, and 2019, and opened a fourth solo exhibition demonstrating her sensitivity to the seasonal rhythms of the natural world in the summer of 2021. Garden Spring was included in our 2019 exhibit and inspired the following from the artist: “Some of the first trees to bloom in spring are weeping willows. When the willows turn yellow you celebrate that winter is soon over. The willows overlooking the pond in Boston Garden are massive, with tendrils draping and swaying down to the water’s edge. Painting this scene backlit enhances the brilliance of the spring yellow-green and reveals the still visible structure of tree trunks. The complement of purple-blue on the trunks lets you know how blue the sky is above this scene.”
