Grant captured life as he experienced it, recording the daily activities of the fishermen and villagers with his oils and watercolors and also venturing to the nearby towns of Rockport and Marblehead for more subject matter. Along the Wharf, Cape Ann is rendered with the Grant’s distinctive brushwork and vibrant palette, and reveals that even the most commonplace imagery, that of dories strewn along a weathered dock, charmed the artist and became worthy subjects for his art.
